Cyclone Fengal Tracker Live Today [Live Map]

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Cyclone Fengal is likely to hit the Tamil Nadu coast on the afternoon of November 30, 2024, with a wind speed of 70-90 km / h. At present, the cyclone is 300-350 km away from the Tamil Nadu coast and is likely to intensify further before hitting the coast.

The main issues:

Wind speed is likely to reach upto 90 kmph.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Flood Risk: Residents are advised to be vigilant due to possible flooding in low-lying areas.

Steps taken by government:

The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on November 30.
IT companies have been asked to allow their employees to work from home.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea and their boats have been moved to higher ground.

Crop loss and impact on transportation:

Paddy crops in Nagapattinam district: About 800 acres of land has been inundated, causing heavy losses to farmers.
Public transport: East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road in Puducherry will be closed for traffic.

People should strictly follow government guidelines.
People living near the coast should move to higher areas.
The state administration is making efforts on a war footing to minimise the possible damage due to the cyclone and has appealed to the people to remain alert
