FIR Filed Against MP Mahua Moitra for Comments on NCW Head Rekha Sharma-min
The IFSO unit of the Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Mahua Moitra, a Member of Parliament from Krishnanagar, representing the TMC party.
This action was taken because of her remarks against Rekha Sharma, the chief of the National Commission for Women (NCW).
Moitra is charged under Section 79 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS).
This section deals with actions or gestures that insult the modesty of a woman.
DCP (PRO) Suman Nalwa confirmed this information.
Earlier, the NCW noticed Moitra’s comments and asked for an FIR to be filed against her.
On July 4, Moitra posted a video on a platform called X.
The video showed Rekha Sharma arriving at a stampede scene in Hathras.
In the video, someone was holding an umbrella for Sharma.
Moitra later deleted this post.
The NCW reacted strongly to this video.
They said on X, “An FIR should be registered against Moitra, and a detailed action report should be given to the commission within 3 days.”
The NCW’s complaint stated that Moitra’s comments were very offensive and violated women’s right to live with dignity.
In response, Moitra wrote back on X.
She said, “Come on, take action as ordered by the Delhi Police. I am in Nadia. If you need to arrest me in the next 3 days, I can hold my own umbrella.”
