The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has warned citizens to be careful of heatstroke and dehydration in the wake of rising temperatures. A special heatstroke ward has been set up at Kamala Nehru Hospital as heat-related illnesses are on the rise.
Who is more at risk of heatstroke?
✅ Children and the elderly
✅ Athletes and those working outdoors
Those with heart, lung or kidney diseases
Main symptoms of heatstroke:
⚠️ Nausea, vomiting, dizziness
⚠️ High temperature (more than 40°C)
⚠️ Hot, dry skin and reduced sweating
⚠️ Increased heart rate, mental confusion
PMC’s measures to prevent heatstroke:
✅ Stay indoors between 12 and 3 pm
✅ Drink plenty of fluids (water, lemonade, coconut water)
✅ Wear light, loose and cotton clothes
✅ Use a hat, sunglasses, umbrella
✅ Do not leave children or animals in vehicles
✅ Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks
What to do in an emergency?
🚑 Move to shade, loosen clothing, pour cold water
🚑 Cool the body with wet cloths, use ice packs
🚑 Give only water, avoid alcohol and caffeine
🚑 Seek immediate medical attention (call 108)
