Shortage of doctors in Pune Municipal Corporation hospitals, 105 posts vacant

There is a severe shortage of specialist doctors in Pune Municipal Corporation hospitals, affecting healthcare services. Despite having 21 maternity wards and 51 dispensaries, 105 out of 144 posts in Class ‘A’ are vacant. Patients are not getting proper treatment as important posts like neurosurgeon, cardiologist, gynecologist are vacant. Although the population has increased due to newly incorporated villages, the manpower has not been increased.

Most of the posts in Class 1, 2 and 3 are vacant, and the PMC is making contractual appointments, but experts advise regular recruitment as a long-term solution. Recruitment of doctors has become a necessity to meet the growing health needs of the city.
